The Association of Healthcare Supply and Procurement Officers (AHSPO) is dedicated to advancing excellence in healthcare supply chain management. We foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for professionals, industry leaders, and stakeholders and commit to driving innovation and best practices.
At AHSPO, we connect professionals with valuable opportunities for growth through industry events, networking and professional development. Founded in 1956 as a trade union for hospital staff, AHSPO has evolved into a leading institution in healthcare, shaping the future of supply chain management and advancing quality healthcare for patients.
To empower healthcare supply chain and procurement professionals to drive better patient outcomes.
To advocate for the professional growth of our members through access to education, networking, and industry-leading opportunities.
Led by an experienced supply chain team, AHSPO is committed to providing career advancement and professional development opportunities to help members grow and succeed. With dedicated careers workshops and resources, we’re here to help members grow and thrive in the industry.
AHSPO provides opportunities for members to expand their networks and build meaningful industry relationships. We strengthen connections that drive innovation and success by facilitating partnerships between suppliers and top healthcare and procurement professionals.
We are an industry-leading group that provides educational opportunities for our members. Our goal is to support professional growth by offering speakers, online courses and workshops that help members expand their knowledge, skills and horizons.
AHSPO was established in 1956, initially serving as a trade union for hospital staff. Over time, procurement roles became more prevalent, leading to a decline in membership. However, in the late 1970s, interest surged among like-minded individuals who wanted to join and enhance the profession.

The first AHSPO Conference took place in the late 1980s, and it was surprising to see so many attendees. Yarrawonga, 37 years ago, marked a turning point for us, as we organised our first trade event. That was the critical moment we began discussing education and improvement efforts. There was a collaborative effort with Mayfield Douglas to conduct educational classes, facilitated by AHSPO members.

In the early 1990s, the organisation had dwindled to only 30 members. New members joined the committee, including individuals like Ron Hillier, who was passionate about revitalising the organisation. We implemented stronger policies to ensure that our members actively contributed. The key to our success was changing the culture, which led to improvements across the board. We began actively communicating with members, increasing their engagement and connection to AHSPO.

Today, our vibrant community of over 700 members has shown incredible resilience. We have navigated the challenges of a global pandemic, adapting to the rapidly evolving procurement landscape, and continuing to grow stronger each year. Together, we are shaping the future of the supply chain and procurement industry with strength and a shared commitment to excellence.
